Sources of motor-vehicle noise

A motor vehicle becomes noisier as its exhaust silencer deteriorates. Smooth driving that avoids abrupt braking, unnecessary engine revving and strong acceleration helps reduce noise. Tyres, the exhaust, bodywork and loads can all contribute, so the engine is not the only source.
