Lighting in built-up areas and poor visibility

Use position lights and dipped headlights whenever weather such as rain, snow or fog reduces visibility, regardless of location or time. In fog with visibility below 50 metres, use the rear fog light if fitted. Main beam is not the normal night-time light in built-up areas and must not dazzle others. At night, a vehicle parked at the edge of the carriageway in a built-up area may be marked by parking lights; a lawfully parked vehicle does not always need dipped or parking lights, so apply the specific rules for its location.
