Road obstructions, stationary vehicles, motorways and roads outside built-up areas
Following a vehicle with an unstable load
A shifting or falling load can strike your vehicle or suddenly block the road. Drop well back, particularly uphill, and be especially alert when the vehicle ahead brakes or turns. An overhanging or dangling load may hide its direction indicators and make the intended manoeuvre difficult to recognise. Warn the other driver when this can be done without creating further danger, and overtake only where visibility, road markings and traffic allow it.
