Novice-driver limits, cornering speed and fuel use

Drivers who obtained their licence less than three years ago may not exceed 100 km/h on motorways or 90 km/h on main non-urban roads, even where the ordinary road limit is higher. High speed and abrupt acceleration or deceleration increase fuel consumption and environmental pollution. Speed affects roadholding in a bend: excessive speed can cause loss of grip and may even overturn the vehicle. A bend must not be driven with the clutch pedal depressed, because coasting reduces the control provided by the drivetrain.
