General speed limits

General speed limits vary with the road, vehicle and conditions. For a car, the ordinary limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on secondary non-urban roads, 110 km/h on main non-urban roads and 130 km/h on motorways. A signed 70 km/h limit may be introduced on suitable urban roads. On motorway sections meeting the statutory requirements, 150 km/h is possible only when authorised by the road authority and expressly signed. In precipitation, the maximum for cars falls to 90 km/h on main non-urban roads and 110 km/h on motorways. Mopeds may not exceed 45 km/h; heavy quadricycles are limited to 80 km/h outside built-up areas; wheeled agricultural and construction machines to 40 km/h.
