Situations requiring drivers to slow down and stop if necessary

Drivers must reduce speed and stop where necessary when the road is too narrow or obstructed for oncoming vehicles to pass safely and when approaching pedestrian crossings. The same duty applies when pedestrians in the vehicle's path are slow to move clear or show uncertainty, when animals on the road appear frightened and when the driver is dazzled. The duty arises from the actual hazard and the need to retain control. It is not triggered automatically merely by every vehicle access, bus stop, flyover, speed camera or road sign.
