Emergency lane for use only when necessary

The image shows a road divided into areas A, B and C. Area A is the emergency lane, separated from the ordinary traffic lanes by a continuous white line. In the Italian driving-theory questions it may be used when a vehicle breaks down, for no more than three hours. The continuous line does not mark a time-limited parking area, and the lane is not reserved for turning right. Its purpose is to allow stopping or travel only in emergencies and in the other cases expressly permitted by the rules.
