Road markings and obstacle markings
Emergency lane
The figure shows three lanes, with emergency lane A separated by a continuous line. It must not be used for overtaking, and heavy traffic does not in itself allow drivers to cross the continuous line. The restrictions apply to motorcycles as well as other motor vehicles. For the exam, identify the line by its position and continuity. A continuous line normally restricts crossing and lane changes; a broken line permits a manoeuvre only when the relevant rules allow it and it can be completed safely.
