Minimum tyre tread depth and tyre condition

The minimum legal tread depth for a motor-vehicle tyre is 1.6 mm, while for a motorcycle tyre it is 1.0 mm. Age, cracking and deterioration also affect safety, so replacement may be advisable after several years even when sufficient tread remains.
