Minimum tyre tread depth and tyre condition
The minimum legal tread depth for a motor-vehicle tyre is 1.6 mm, while for a motorcycle tyre it is 1.0 mm. Age, cracking and deterioration also affect safety, so replacement may be advisable after several years even when sufficient tread remains. Tubeless tyres and tyres with inner tubes behave differently after a puncture and must be repaired using an appropriate professional method.
