Choosing, using and maintaining a helmet

A helmet must be worn and fastened correctly even on short journeys and at low speed and, where required, on quadricycles without bodywork. The visor protects the eyes and face and must remain clear, undamaged and free from scratches; ventilation helps prevent misting. Light and heat age the materials, so use non-corrosive cleaning products and never petrol or solvents, which may weaken the shell. Replace the helmet after a severe impact even if it looks intact externally, because its internal structure may no longer provide effective protection.
