Successive overtakes and permitted passing on the right

On a road with at least two lanes in each direction, another overtake may follow without returning right between the two manoeuvres, provided no one is obstructed. Pass on the right when the vehicle ahead has signalled a left turn and is correctly positioned for it; on a one-way road, the same applies when it has signalled that it will pull in on the left. A tram may be passed on either side on a one-way road if the carriageway is wide enough. If a tram or trolleybus is stopped for passengers, it may be passed on the right only when a boarding island separates and protects them; without such an island, passing on the right is prohibited. These are specific exceptions: motorway overtaking is normally on the left.
