Traffic rules, manoeuvres and driving conduct
Two-way road with a broken centre line
The broken white centre line separates opposing traffic. Vehicles must travel in the right-hand lane and, when meeting oncoming traffic, keep as close as possible to the right-hand edge. The left-hand lane carries opposing traffic and may be entered only for a lawful and safe overtake; return to the right as soon as the manoeuvre is complete. The broken line may also be crossed to turn left or make a U-turn where the manoeuvre is not prohibited and can be completed safely. It does not authorise continuous travel astride the line or parallel streams of traffic across the two lanes.
