Three-lane, two-way road

The two outer lanes carry normal traffic in opposite directions. The shared centre lane, bounded by broken lines, may be entered only for manoeuvres allowed under the applicable rules, principally overtaking when it can be completed safely. It is not an ordinary travel lane for either direction. Because the road carries opposing traffic, vehicles do not form parallel streams across these three lanes. Do not confuse this layout with a one-way carriageway having several lanes in the same direction.
