Traffic officer with arms at right angles

A traffic officer holding the arms at right angles controls each traffic stream according to the direction from which it approaches. Vehicles arriving from the officer's left may continue straight ahead or turn right or left, subject to the usual safety and priority rules. Vehicles arriving from the officer's right or from behind must stop. The officer's directions take precedence over traffic lights, road signs and road markings. For the exam, always place the approaching vehicle in relation to the officer before deciding which movement is permitted.
