Reversible-lane control signals

The image shows signals used to control reversible lanes: a red cross, a downward green arrow and a diagonal amber arrow. These overhead signals regulate individual lanes on multi-lane carriageways, particularly where the direction of a lane can change. A red cross prohibits use of the lane below; a green arrow permits traffic to use that lane; a flashing diagonal amber arrow requires drivers to leave the lane and move in the direction indicated. These are not pedestrian signals and they do not identify emergency lanes, slow-vehicle lanes or overtaking-only lanes.
