Transverse stop line
This transverse white line shows where to stop for a STOP sign or red traffic light. The word STOP may also be painted on the road. It is not the broken transverse line associated with an ordinary GIVE WAY control. Stop before the line when the relevant signal or sign requires it. The line can be crossed when traffic control permits movement, so it is incorrect to say that it may never be crossed.
