Continuous centre line

This continuous white line runs along the centre of the carriageway. On a two-way road it separates opposing traffic and must not be crossed. It may be used near the crest of a hump, pedestrian crossings or sections where visibility makes crossing the centre unsafe. An overtake is only possible if it can be completed without crossing the line and no other rule prohibits it. The rule concerns crossing the marking, so do not confuse it with an absolute prohibition on every possible overtake.
