Warning signs

Strong crosswinds

This triangular sign showing a windsock warns of strong crosswinds, for example on viaducts or when leaving a tunnel. High-sided vans, lorries and sheeted vehicles are especially vulnerable. Reduce speed, hold the steering wheel firmly and allow for sudden gusts. The windsock symbol identifies the presence of crosswinds but does not reliably state the direction from which each gust will come.
