Traffic island

A traffic island is a part of the road from which vehicles are excluded so that traffic flows can be organised and guided in different directions. It is bounded by continuous white lines. A flush island is marked with white diagonal hatching across its surface; a raised island is preceded by hatching that makes the obstruction clearly visible. A traffic island is not a lane, road shoulder, lay-by or area reserved for motorcycles.
