Tyre grip allows a vehicle to move and follow its path
Friction between the tyres and the road provides the grip needed to accelerate, brake and steer. In a bend it supplies the lateral force that keeps the vehicle on the intended path instead of sliding outwards. Available grip also helps resist sideways displacement caused by crosswinds.
