Turning right with a trailer

A trailer cuts inside the towing vehicle's path and increases the combination's swept area. Before any manoeuvre, check that no person or object is within that area. Approach a right turn slowly, observe its inside and leave enough clearance from pedestrians, cyclists and the kerb. A trailer, especially when loaded, reduces acceleration and increases fuel consumption; on a steep descent, also account for its forward thrust. Liquid moving inside a tank during turns, braking and acceleration can seriously destabilise the combination. The vertical load on the towball must not upset the towing vehicle's attitude or headlamp aim. Raise and secure the jockey wheel before setting off.
