Overtaking rules
Checks required before overtaking
Check that the road ahead is visible and clear for the whole manoeuvre, that no oncoming traffic will be endangered, and that the carriageway is wide enough. The required distance depends on the length of both vehicles and their speed difference. Also make sure that no driver behind on the same carriageway has begun overtaking, that the vehicle ahead in the same lane has not signalled the same manoeuvre, and that no sign prohibits overtaking. All these checks are needed to complete the manoeuvre without danger or obstruction.
