Adjusting the left exterior mirror

A small view of the vehicle's rear in the right-hand third provides a position reference; most of the mirror should cover the adjacent road and traffic approaching from behind. Its curvature can distort apparent distance and speed, and a substantial blind spot remains. Check the mirror before moving left, overtaking, turning or joining traffic, and complete the observation with a quick direct blind-spot check where necessary. The mirror is not adjusted to watch children in the rear seats and must not be folded merely because a mountain road is narrow. It remains necessary in built-up areas. Mirrors on two-wheeled vehicles are adjustable; check their setting when the riding position changes or the mirror is disturbed, not at a fixed thousand-kilometre interval. Rear head restraints do not remove the need for an interior mirror, which must not be used as a satellite-navigation screen.
