Adjusting and using rear-view mirrors

Set the interior mirror to show the whole rear window with minimal distortion. At night, its anti-dazzle position reduces glare from vehicles behind and may also be used on a motorway. Check the interior and exterior mirrors before turning, changing lane, beginning or ending an overtake, reversing or parking. Parking sensors and cameras do not replace these observations. Mirrors do not eliminate blind spots, so complete the observation with a direct shoulder check where necessary. Adjust the seat first and then the mirrors, always while stationary. Mirrors are approved safety equipment required according to the vehicle's design: their dimensions and type are not based on engine capacity, and they may not be removed or replaced arbitrarily merely because another mirror is larger. Motor caravans also require mirrors, and a vehicle may not be driven with mirrors missing by staying below 50 km/h or using hazard lights. The interior mirror does not have illumination switched on by the position lamps.
