Situations requiring drivers to give way

Rail vehicles such as trams and trains normally have priority at junctions unless the applicable signs or signals establish a different rule. A driver joining traffic from a stationary position must give way to traffic approaching from both directions; the same applies when leaving a driveway or other private access. A U-turn and reversing are subordinate manoeuvres and give no priority: before carrying them out, yield to every road user who could be obstructed or endangered. Do not confuse these broad duties with situations where priority depends on signs, signals or the paths that actually conflict.
