Single carriageway with three lanes in each direction

Within each direction, the right-hand lane is normally used for ordinary travel and the centre and left lanes are normally used for overtaking or as traffic conditions require. Despite the number of lanes, the road consists of one carriageway, not two physically separate carriageways. The presence of three lanes in each direction does not make parallel streams compulsory, nor does it turn the centre or left lane into the normal lane when the right-hand lane is free.
