Three lanes in each direction on separate carriageways

On a carriageway with several lanes in the same direction, motor vehicles must normally use the rightmost available lane. The lanes farther left are used for overtaking or when traffic conditions and lane destinations require them; they should not be occupied continuously without reason. The diagram also distinguishes broken lane lines from the continuous edge lines bordering the road and central reservation.
