Driver distraction can cause collisions

A brief distraction can prevent the driver from seeing a hazard or delay the response. Switching on, handling or using a mobile phone, lighting a cigarette and searching for the controls of a radio or another electronic device can all divert the driver's eyes, hands or attention from the road. A short duration does not make distraction harmless: in only a few seconds the vehicle travels a considerable distance without the driver's full attention.
