Advance notice of an EU national border

The blue sign bearing the European Union stars and the country name France gives advance notice of the national border on a road leading out of Italy. The supplementary panel states that the border is 1 kilometre ahead. It does not by itself announce a police checkpoint or mandatory customs stop, and it is not a nationality plate to be attached to the rear of a vehicle.
