Increase in the number of lanes

The blue diagram shows the carriageway changing from one lane to two in the same direction of travel. It gives drivers advance information about the additional lane and may be supplemented by the distance to the change. It does not indicate a grade-separated U-turn facility, require a right turn, show alternative sides of an obstruction or authorise overtaking on the right.
