Continuous transverse stop line

The figure shows a continuous white line running across the lane: this is a stop line. It marks the point before which a driver must stop whenever a halt is required, for example by a STOP sign or a red traffic light. The marking does not, by itself, require drivers to stop at every uncontrolled junction, nor does it mean that they must automatically give way indiscriminately to traffic from both directions. In the official question set, the same figure is expressly identified as a transverse stop line.
