Continuous transverse stop line

The image shows a lane approaching a junction, with the word STOP painted on the road and a continuous transverse stop line. The line physically identifies where a driver must stop in response to the STOP sign or another instruction requiring a halt. It is not merely a visual guide: the vehicle must stop before the line without crossing it. After stopping, the driver may proceed only after giving way as required and making sure that it is safe.
