Broken edge line beside a stopping area
This broken white edge line separates the carriageway from a roadside stopping area. It marks the edge of the part intended for moving traffic and distinguishes it from the lateral stopping or parking space. Its specific function in the theory test is to separate the carriageway from the lay-by. Because the line is broken, vehicles may cross it to enter or leave the lay-by when the manoeuvre is permitted and safe. It is not a centre line.
