Road markings and obstacle markings
Broken white centre line
The figure shows a two-lane carriageway divided by a broken white centre line. The line may be crossed when a manoeuvre is permitted and can be completed safely, for example when overtaking or turning left; it does not permit continuous driving astride it. The related false statement claims that the line may be replaced by a few road studs or reflectors spaced 50 centimetres apart, which does not describe the marking shown.
