Broken white centre line
This broken white line divides the carriageway into lanes and, on a two-way road, separates opposing traffic. It may be crossed to overtake, turn left or make a U-turn when that manoeuvre is both permitted and safe. It does not allow drivers to travel along the line and does not separate a cycle track. Always assess visibility, other signs and the traffic situation before crossing it. A broken line permits a manoeuvre; it never guarantees that the manoeuvre is safe or otherwise lawful.
