No overtaking motor vehicles, except two-wheeled motorcycles and mopeds

This circular sign with a red and a black car prohibits overtaking motor vehicles other than two-wheeled motorcycles and mopeds, even when the manoeuvre could remain within the driver's half of the carriageway. The rule depends on the category of the vehicle being overtaken, not the category of the overtaking vehicle: a car may overtake a two-wheeled motorcycle, but a motorcyclist may not overtake a car. A lorry, car or other motor vehicle, including one below 3.5 tonnes, may not be overtaken. A two-wheeled motorcycle or moped, bicycle, handcart or animal-drawn vehicle may be overtaken when the manoeuvre is otherwise safe and lawful. The sign does not prohibit every possible overtaking manoeuvre and does not regulate priority through a narrow section.
