Level crossing without barriers

This triangular sign showing a locomotive warns of a level crossing without barriers. It is normally placed 150 metres before the tracks with the three-stripe countdown marker. A St Andrew's cross stands close to the tracks and is doubled where the railway has more than one track. The situation requires the greatest care. For the theory test, remember that the triangle warns of a hazard ahead: reduce speed and pay closer attention, but do not infer a prohibition or mandatory action that is not shown. A supplementary plate may specify the distance, length or conditions of the hazard.
