Warning signs
Level crossing with barriers or half-barriers
This triangular sign showing a barrier warns of a level crossing protected by barriers or half-barriers. It is normally placed 150 metres before the crossing, so reduce speed and be ready for red lights, an audible warning and closing barriers. For the theory test, remember that the triangle warns of a hazard ahead: reduce speed and pay closer attention, but do not infer a prohibition or mandatory action that is not shown. A supplementary plate may specify the distance, length or conditions of the hazard.
